PPBF supporter Tom McGahy is starting the new year with a dramatic new style.
Tom McGahy’s Haircut Fundraiser for the PPBF’s compassionate housing next to Southampton Hospital has raised £2,171.33.
Tom is currently staying in Isaac’s Pad – one of our cosy and private flats for the families of premature babies or critically ill children needing off-island treatment.
His eldest daughter, Romy, is receiving lifesaving treatment for neuroblastoma – a rare cancer diagnosed in 2021. The flat, next to Southampton Hospital, has helped the McGahys to stay together for around 14 months, and this has meant a great deal, especially over Christmas.
To help other Guernsey families who may face similarly difficult times, Tom has been asking for hairstyle votes and donations over the last few weeks.
Earlier today, Tom braved the shave and has revealed his funky new mohawk – the public’s favourite style. The mullet was a close second, followed by the moustache.
The team at Jack Rabbits in Southampton were so excited to get involved, and made Tom’s cut even bolder (and bigger!) than the original mohawk idea, with a touch of peachy pink. The barbering team have also decided to donate the cost of the haircut to Tom’s fundraiser.
A big thank you to Jack Rabbits Barbers in Southampton for transforming Tom’s long hair which took almost 5 hours, completely free of charge. They made the whole experience fun and welcoming.
We’re so grateful to the McGahy family for supporting us and, of course, to everyone who kindly donated. Every penny will keep even more families together by providing them with a ‘home-from-home’ – for as many nights as they need.
Tom has also decided to donate his locks to the Little Princess Trust – a charity that provides real hair wigs for young people who have lost their own hair through medical treatment.
