As a charity close to their hearts, Tim Rogers and Kyle De La Mare will be competing in a Charity Boxing Match for the PPBF on 22nd March
Both Kyle ‘Del Boy’ De La Mare and Tim ‘The Raging Bull’ Rogers will be entering the ring of a Charity Boxing Match in Guernsey on Friday 22nd March 2024, to raise funds for the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation (PPBF).
Kyle and Tim’s employer, G4S Guernsey, is kindly paying for their training to help give them both an edge on the big night.
For Kyle, the PPBF is close to his heart as he was born six weeks early, and was cared for overnight on Guernsey’s Special Care Unit (which would have been known as the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit during that time). He was treated with phototherapy to help with jaundice, caused by increased levels of bilirubin in the blood. At just seven days old, Kyle became very poorly and was rushed back to the Unit as he couldn’t regulate his temperature. He required a lumbar puncture (to test the fluid around the brain and spinal cord), and was cared for by the neonatal team for a further week. As a fighter from day one, Kyle is ready to put that fighting spirit into this exciting challenge. Kyle’s fundraising page can be found here.
For Tim, the PPBF is a cause similarly close to home. Currently, the charity is supporting Kieran Wallace (a friend of Tim’s) and Kieran’s partner, Sam, as their baby girl Kaitlin is being treated at Southampton Hospital. The couple is staying in one of our flats, which is a stone’s throw from the hospital, meaning they can be by Kaitlin’s side quickly and easily. The flat itself is fully equipped and free of charge, meaning that Kieran and Sam can continue to call it home for the duration of Kaitlin’s care. Kaitlin was born with ‘CHARGE’ syndrome (a complex syndrome that causes a range of physical and health problems that vary from child to child) and a cleft lip, and palate. Her specialist hospital care will continue for an unknown length of time. Tim’s fundraising page can be found here.
Our trio of flats – Aggie’s Burrow, Isaac’s Pad and Frankie’s Den – are a real lifeline to local families with a premature baby or poorly child needing urgent, off-island care. Each flat has been lovingly decorated and aims to take away the worry of finding a private, comfortable, and convenient place to stay, especially at the last minute. But, our flats need financial assistance if they are to stay open for families in our community. Fundraisers like Tim and Kyle’s are a huge help, as all donations will go towards essential running, maintenance, and management costs, via our Buy-A-Night campaign.
A huge thank you to both boxers for choosing to support the PPBF’s compassionate housing in a competitive way; we wish you the best of luck. Please do click on the links above to donate – any amount, however big or small, will always make a difference to those who need a helping hand.
