The Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation (PPBF) has partnered with the Guernsey Arts Commission to celebrate the launch of the 2024 Bailiwick Wildlife Photography Exhibition, which will be running from 26th January until 17th March.
To raise awareness for both charities during this community event, the PPBF is running a ‘like + share’ competition on Facebook and Instagram, giving islanders the chance to win a bespoke owl painting by Martha Gordon, an Adora’bubble voucher for a Family Shoot with 15 digital prints and images, and two tickets to see the exciting new exhibit at the Guernsey Museum. The winner will be announced on the PPBF’s social media pages on Wednesday 7th February.
The painting, shown below, has been specially commissioned for the competition, including two sleepy owls floating in a starry night’s sky – reminiscent of the PPBF’s Buy-A-Night campaign style. Artist and Spanish teacher, Martha Gordon, is a supporter of the charity as her daughter works with the PPBF, and wanted to get involved in a creative way.
Supported by Guernsey Electricity’s Power to the People Fund, the exhibition features images of local wildlife, submitted by the community. It celebrates local talent, and photography as an art form.
Jo Priaulx says: ‘I think it’s really important for charities to work together and help each other wherever they can, whether that’s through fundraising or awareness raising. This event is also a great example of what corporate sponsorships can do to help charities in Guernsey. Our Buy-A-Night campaign mascot is Nighty the Owl, so we were delighted to hear that a barn owl is featured in the exhibit! We’ve had some fun on social media with Nighty popping up around the exhibit, and we hope that the event will be a real success. On a personal level, I think photography has a lot of power, especially when it captures a memory. When I had my son – Sebastian – 4 weeks early, it was his photo that kept me going while he was receiving hospital care in Northampton. Being apart from your baby or child is a very painful thing, which is why we run three flats next to Southampton Hospital, for Guernsey families to use. A special thanks goes out to Adora’bubble for continuing to be such kind supporters of the PPBF, the Guernsey Arts Commission for taking the time to work with us on this project and to Martha for her beautiful work.’
PPBF Trustee, Pete Beausire, attended a special open evening on Wednesday 24th January and enjoyed a first look at the exhibition which showcases Guernsey’s natural beauty.
Louise Le Pelley says: ‘Guernsey Arts is proud to present the 2024 Bailiwick Wildlife exhibition. Now in its third year, it has established itself as a firm community favourite within their extensive exhibition programme. Celebrating the stunning array of wildlife captured by our Bailiwick’s photographers, it highlights the importance and proximity of nature within our lives. This year, Guernsey Arts are grateful to have been awarded funds from Guernsey Electricity’s Power To The People Fund – it is through this generous sponsorship that they are able to extend our engagement with the public and community groups. Guernsey Arts recognises the importance of arts in the community and the power it can play in championing causes, raising awareness and providing enjoyment to all. The team are pleased to be partnering with the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation to celebrate the beauty of our Island home and to help raise awareness for the children and families far away from home who need support from our community.‘
