PPBF Celebrate National Love Your Pet Day
Although if you’re a pet owner you’ll know every day is worth celebrating our pets.
Although if you’re a pet owner you’ll know every day is worth celebrating our pets.
On National Love Your Pet Day we look at why Pets bring us joy, help us through tough times and give us no-questions asked unconditional love.
To celebrate National Love Your Pet Day, here are a few reasons why it’s great to own an animal companion.
Having a pet:
🐾 comforts us when we feel sad – they can pick up on our emotions and be there for a cuddle
🐾 petting a dog for 15 minutes can lower blood pressure by 10%, reducing our stress and anxiety
🐾 a pet can help manage loneliness and depression by giving us companionship
🐾 pets often get us outside exercising and even socialising, making new friends in our local parks or beach whilst out on a walk
🐾 Our pets can teach our children compassion and responsibility
🐾 they make us laugh
Give your pet companion a snuggle, pamper or play with them today to show them how much you love them.
PPBF Animal Mascots
At the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation here in Guernsey and Southampton we are all animal lovers – pets and our mascots; bunnies, bears, dogs and owls. Our mascots work hard for us, day and night, helping to promote our work to support families, premature babies and critically ill children going through the hardest of times.
Flopsy the Bunny is Aggie’s Burrow mascot while our PPBF Bear is Isaac’s Pad mascot. More recently, Nighty the Owl has become our ‘Buy-A-Night’ mascot, helping to safeguard the PPBF’s compassionate housing which provides thousands of safe and cosy nights in the home-from-home flats on the doorstep of Southampton Hospital. These flats are a lifeline for Bailiwick of Guernsey families whose child needs critical, off-island care. You can find out more about Nighty the Owl’s Buy-A-Night here.
Therapy Dogs
These special dogs are more than a pet. Just stroking a friendly dog can provide comfort and calm to patients in the Princess Elizabeth Hospital Guernsey and Southampton Children’s Hospital .
These special dogs have helped thousands of children, many critically ill, bringing big smiles and a sense of normality in the paediatric wards, including all types of medical and surgical patients, cancer care, and even paediatric intensive care. These canines help to provide positive memories of the children’s time in the hospital. When a child needs help and support, whether it is for a specific test, as a distraction while a procedure is taking place or in some form of rehabilitation the therapy dogs can help. They can also help young people admitted with mental health issues.
We Love Our Pets
Our founders Jo and Andy Priaulx MBE love their gorgeous, snuggly, pet dog cockapoos: Buddy and Fendi. Many of the PPBF team have pets and celebrate National Love Your Pet Day.
Our work aims to lessen the suffering of families and their little ones in times of need, so we’re grateful to the furry friends who can be there for us.
Let’s celebrate our pets, give them a treat, a hug and show them our love each and every day 🐾
