“The care and love I was shown by family, friends, specialists, midwives and not forgetting PPBF both on and off island was absolutely amazing and we cannot thank them enough.” – Nicky Ajanaku.

When we found out we were pregnant with twins it was such a beautiful blessing after 8 attempts of IVF. We are blessed with an 8 year old girl and 5 year old twins.
At 22 weeks pregnant with my twins I haemorrhaged very significantly and was admitted to Loveridge ward where I was on bed rest and, thank goodness, after 48hrs I was able to return home but had to give up work due to being high risk. Then 2 weeks later at 24 weeks I haemorrhaged again, with a scarily amount of blood loss. At this point I was made comfortable and given 2 blood transfusions. 6hrs after arriving at the PEH I was on my way up to the airport where I was being airlifted to Portsmouth. Once in Portsmouth I realised this was where I was going to remain until such a time the twins were to put in an appearance.
Fast forward 5 weeks to 30 weeks and 4 days and a further haemorrhage which brought on labour. I called my husband at 4am who with our 3year old daughter, my mum and dad raced to Guernsey Airport to get a flight over to Portsmouth. Due to terrible fog they were 6hrs delayed and finally at 4.30pm they skated into the labour ward where I was being prepped for an emergency C section. I kissed my daughter and husband and off I went down to the operating theatre.
2hrs later in recovery I was told I have given birth to a baby boy and baby girl who we named Kayode Sunny weighing 3lb 14oz and Zaria Faith weighing 3lb 4oz on 23rd September 2014.
The next 5 weeks were the hardest as I was on my own in Portsmouth and contracted an infection, but thankfully the hospital allowed me to remain in my room on maternity ward to enable me to recover and feed my babies. They were fighters and became stronger & stronger and finally 5 weeks after they were born we got the nod that Guernsey NICU had space for them both and that we were travelling back in the next 2hrs.
Once back in Guernsey we stayed in NICU for a further 3 weeks and 3 weeks before their official due date of 30th November 2014 we were discharged home.
The care and love I was shown by family, friends, specialists, midwives and not forgetting PPBF both on and off island was absolutely amazing and we cannot thank them enough.
