It’s the weekend of the ‘Jason Piriou Memorial – Open Bass Charity Competition 2023’ and we are honoured to have been chosen as the event’s Charity of the Year.
This is a picture of Jason taken by his wife, Kerry, at 3am in July 2008. Jason passed away while fishing on rocks at L’Eree in November 2008, aged 37. Above, he can be seen with his biggest bass ever, weighing in at 11 lb 3oz, caught on Lihou Island.
Kerry says: “Firstly, we were lucky enough to have three beautiful children, however, we suffered four miscarriages along the way which caused significant distress at the time. For me, any loss whether it be during the early stages or later, is heartbreaking and extremely difficult to get through.
Secondly, Jason was born 5.5 weeks early which was extremely worrying for his mum at the time. We run this Charity Competition annually and choose a different local charity each time. We are extremely proud to be able to help the PPBF but wouldn’t be able to do it without our sponsors and, of course, the anglers who support it year on year.”
We wish all anglers the best of luck, and we will be thinking of Jason’s loved ones during such a special event to honour his memory. Thank you to everyone involved.
Events like these support our compassionate housing for local families with a poorly little one needing off-island treatment, the creation of our Baby Boxes for families here in Guernsey and the work we do in conjunction with the Neonatal Unit at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.
